NEW OUTPATIENT AND TECHNICAL AREA BUILDING AT THE CONSORCI HOSPITALARI DE VIC
VIC (SPAIN)
The project for the new Outpatient and Technical Area building of the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic is primarily based on respecting the current location of the existing hospital facilities, which are already situated on the designated site.
For this reason, the outpatient building has been designed in a compact form, occupying the smallest possible footprint. Positioned above a large-span structural framework, it is elevated above the installations building without interfering with it.
The design is based on an orthogonal grid which, together with the separation of technical and public circulations, ensures flexibility in the interior layouts. This allows for future adaptations of the building without the need to modify either its structure or installations, thus ensuring a sustainable space that is prepared to evolve with changing uses over time.
The project also incorporates passive strategies to optimize energy efficiency. The interior courtyards, strategically distributed within the basic grid, not only bring natural light into public areas and technical corridors, but also function as thermal chimneys, regulating the building’s temperature in both winter and summer. These solutions, along with the efficient façade design, contribute significantly to energy savings.
Finally, special attention has been given to the functional connection between the existing hospital and the new building, in both technical and public circulation paths, thus ensuring an efficient and operational integration of the new facilities.
